Samta Foundation’s Art Initiative is a platform for training handpicked tribal artists, enabling them to sharpen their craft and earn a better living. Started with artists from Palghar, Maharashtra, the initiative is created to support the artists and help them gain financial independence. It helps showcase their work and provides them training and guidance from senior artists and professionals.

Richa Agrawal

Richa was naturally drawn to art as a young girl, exploring forms or filling colours just about anywhere. She put up her first solo art exhibition in 2019, which was inspired by her travels to Palghar, Maharashtra, where Samta Foundation does extensive work in health and education. Drawn to the daily challenges of Palghar’s people, Richa combined her passion of art and commitment with a social need, sparking the Samta Art initiative to support local artists.

 

She uses acrylic painting on canvas as a technique, using mixed media like texture paints, cement powder, Plaster of Paris, and sand to create free flowing forms. Her paintings have a complex identity, diverse cultural associations and background stories. As Managing Trustee of Samta Foundation, Richa launched the Samta Art Initiative on 10  November, 2019. A benevolent humanitarian, Richa now aims to drive the initiative to empower grassroots artists and craftsmen.
